Your 2-part strategy to start or scale a sustainable art studio with art licensing and surface pattern design taught by artist Jess Meyer

In two recorded sessions, you'll learn how licensing really works, what makes a portfolio licensable, and why the artists who build lasting careers aren't necessarily the most talented.

They're the ones who understand the process.

Arrive with doubts and leave with how to prepare your work and yourself, to get your art onto the shelf.

This is not a quick hack, and not another download to add to the pile. It is a gentle room to pause, realign, and learn to take the next real step forward with purpose.

Learn how the licensing industry really works and discover why building a licensing career has far less to do with magically being chosen than you've been led to believe.

And underneath it all, a smaller question you rarely say aloud: Am I even talented enough to want this?

The practical tips you have saved read like a formula. They never speak to the fear, the doubt, or the silence you actually sit in.

You do not really know where to begin, so licensing stays a dream not an actionable goal

You are full of ideas and start more work in your head than you ever do on the page.

Releasing the fear of wasting time and effort starts here

Knowing where to focus your energy next is only practical if you can also recognise patterns in your current season that have been keeping you underpaid, feeling small or doubting this dream is for you.

In this workshop we get to tackle both, so you come out with a real next step that scrolling your Instagram feed won't give you.

YOUR ART CAN WORK FOR YOU

THE MAKING CYCLES YOU'RE IN AREN'T SERVING YOU

Scrolling for a breakthrough feels productive because it's safe, but comparison is never going to give you the permission you need to take a real next step

Over 10 years growing from zero contacts and a side-hustle to agency represented studio, I'm pretty sure I didn't just get the t-shirt, I have a wardrobe of experiences that allow me to see and appreciate where you are in your story.

alone

You're not

This workshop is a warm introduction where I share what I've actually learned about how licensing works, and about the quieter thing underneath it: how to start small, keep making, and keep pitching, through the long stretch before anyone is clapping.

That part is rarely taught. It is the part I care about most.

I didn’t wait for the big break - I painted my own way in. What began as a student side hustle with no connections, email lists or followers became a full-time studio built on grit, grace, and a commitment to my dream.

Today, I'm represented by Wain's World product design and licensing agency creating artwork for brands around the globe. I teach artists how to trust themselves enough to give their dreams a chance. Whether you’re building your product line, chasing your first licensing deal or a mama sketching between nap times - I’m here to help you make art that tells a story that is unmistakably yours.

Hi, I'm Jess

$3 portraits at a student desk with a watercolour paint set left to me by my Gran, turned into a side-hustle. I taught myself Illustrator late at night and began taking on logos and small brand work. Those early portraits taught me how to simply start and trust my desire to carve out my own path. It set the tone for everything that followed.

THE EARLY YEARS

THE BEGINNING

FROM SIDE-HUSTLE TO INTERNATIONAL HEART-LED STUDIO

Creative design requests grew while I supplemented my income designing guidebooks for NPO's. My first nursery and wedding commissions arrived, and I felt the thrill of stepping into a creative path of my own. I sold out my first 20-person workshop and fell in love with teaching.

THE EARLY YEARS

THE BEGINNING

FROM SIDE-HUSTLE TO INTERNATIONAL HEART-LED STUDIO

I started building my first online course. My dad passed away unexpectedly. I finished the course through grief. In 2020, the world shut down, yet over 100 students enrolled in Watercolour Made Simple. I co-founded a stationery brand while moving cross-country.

THE EARLY YEARS

THE BEGINNING

FROM SIDE-HUSTLE TO INTERNATIONAL HEART-LED STUDIO

In 2022 I drew a line in the sand. I built a pattern library, invested in mentors, and committed to learning more about the licensing industry worldwide. Our baby girl arrived early in 2023. The night before her birth, my first non-exclusive licensing contract landed. I designed an Advent calendar during nap times, then signed with Moda Fabrics.

THE EARLY YEARS

THE BEGINNING

FROM SIDE-HUSTLE TO INTERNATIONAL HEART-LED STUDIO

A sunlit studio, new collaborations monthly, and a redesigned website opened space to teach what truly helps: identity first, then skill, then simple systems. Brush to Brand is the small, steady path I wish I had to protect me from burnout cycles and overwhelm.
